Raise your helping hand

About Armsun

There is a saying, “We did not bloom in this planet, so well-formed, to only care about ourselves, understand only our own troubles and see only our own perspectives, but we were born with a purpose, one to help other realize the greatest version of them.” Armsun is an organisation that strongly abides by that statement. Many of us do realize this, however, some are way too overwhelmed and are not ready to take up this huge challenge of bringing about a change. Even though we knew this was going to be a bumpy ride, we were very much determined to give in everything it required to make a difference.  In a country like Bangladesh, the streets depicting the misery of the underprivileged people is not an unusual scenario. Hence, growing up, we have always had an immense desire to give back to our community. However, this initiative did not come without hurdles because pinpointing a certain sector in the hope of bringing long-term positive impacts on our country was not realistic. So, we brainstormed and finally came up with the conclusion to target the 5 basic necessities of life namely food, clothing, shelter, education and healthcare. We plan all these projects carefully, with the aim of benefiting a large proportion of people in need whilst ensuring that these have lasting impact on their lives. Devoting ourselves to this huge commitment, we plan on keeping our projects consistent and helpful, rather than executing them just for namesake.

Girls' Voices

We received a grant of $5000 from Greater Good Charities after achieving the first position in the People’s category of Girl’s Voice Competition 2020. We submitted our video for “Perception” in the competition and out of 200+ entries, we were first selected as top 10 finalists by the judge panel which consisted of professional social workers and highly qualified judges. After a month of public voting, we acquired the first position in People’s category, receiving 65000+ votes from all over the world for the excellent portrayal of our service activities. We received training from the Girl’s Voice team for project planning and execution. They have been guiding and mentoring us throughout our projects and still continue to do so.

Towards tomorrow

We had meticulously planned an elaborative project for aiding the education of a handful of schools: “Ray of Hope, আশার আলো”. However, due to COVID-19, unfortunately, we did not get the chance to execute this plan. As COVID spread like wildfire, we finally decided with a solemn heart that it would be best to not do so right now for the safety of both the team and the members of the schools. Our detailed plan for this upcoming project includes providing the basic necessities to a number of schools in rural areas that are poorly funded and have the bare minimum to provide their children with. This consists of us donating white and black boards, tables, chairs, stationeries, stand fans, and bookshelves. We also plan to provide professional training to the teachers of the schools in English so that they could be more proficient and hence, benefitting the students in the process. Normally in a country like Bangladesh, it is not very common to see children in rural areas having the advantage of getting access to English books. Thus, we decided to provide them with numerous types of English books which will expand their knowledge. Finally, we intend to carry out a 3-day summer camp for the children at the schools where we will share our knowledge more on academics and also bring about the importance of extracurricular activities in their lives. In conclusion, our biggest goal is to provide the deprived students with hope and help bring out their best potential so that it will help them accomplish their dreams in the future.

Despite our numerous projects over the last few years, ARMSUN does not intend to stop anytime soon. Even though each of the five members plans to move to different countries for our higher education, it is our main goal to expand and take this organization to new heights. With more methodical planning and effective fund-raising, we expect us to continue doing ARMSUN’s work no matter where we go. We will forever stay united under this umbrella so that we can raise our helping hand.
